It’s time for more alphabet fun! This week we’re sharing letter J activities for preschool.

Letter J Activities for Preschool (2)

We kept our activities light this week, for a few reasons. The main reason is that spring has arrived! My little guy spent lots of time outdoors, and I spent hours cleaning out closets and swapping clothes for our five kids. I’m always glad to have that job done!

Another reason we kept it light is because he’s got letter J down… it’s the first letter of his name. With the beautiful weather we opted for more outdoor time and less “at the table” time.

(Update: I published this post years ago when my children were young. Now that I have more time, I’ve created a done-for-you alphabet curriculum perfect for preschool!)

We began the week with my letter book of rhymes and songs (you have to love all the Jack nursery rhymes!) and our letter J ABC book (pictured).

I took a jar from our basem*nt and gave him a some paint to do some jar printing. He also made a jellyfish, but I forgot to get a picture. You can see more letter J crafts in this post.

Since he was in the mood to color, I grabbed this letter find page. If your child doesn’t have the patience to color all the J’s, you could always have him cover them with a transparent counter. (And yes, he colored the letter “t” intentionally. It’s a 3-year-old joke.)

We took out some plastic craft jewels. I put some craft glue dots on the J, and he applied the jewels onto our giant letter J. Great fine motor practice!

Finally, we did some jumping for letter J math. I wrote the letters 1-10 on the street (it’s a quiet street), and he jumped and named them quite a few times.

His older brother (age 4), saw what I was doing and made his own number train on the street. My Three was happy to jump again. 🙂

We’re always reading! Joey Runs Away, by Jack Kent, gets read the most of all our letter J books… but we have many more favorites for you to check out in our letter J book list.

See you next week!

I don’t think there’s a way to upload photos to comments, but we combined some of your ideas for a cute activity! After reading Joey Runs Away, we helped Joey clean his room. I made a big kangaroo poster with a pocket that flipped open in front. Inside, I put a smaller joey and then lots of little clip art pics (like you used to glue on the letter J). My daughter sorted the images and kept only pics starting with J, then glued them into the pocket. It came out super cute!

ah! And you’re right on track with Archer’s alphabet! He is on “J” this week. Your Christmas card letter reminded me to come on here and it must be God timing. haha! 🙂

Hi, Amanda! I will try to stay on top of these so we don’t get behind. 🙂 Right now they’re scheduled to post about every 8 days. But you know how life tends to get in the way…!

We did J is for Jesus in preschool last year. This year was Jewelry. I love the idea of using Jellybeans or Jellyfish. Next year will be one of those two! Thanks for the ideas and printables 🙂
Pinned this to my Preschool Play and Learn board.
