Radyo Kabinnulig 99.9 DZNA: Abra’s Community Radio Resumes Operations to Inform and Unite (2025)

Bold claim: Community radio in Abra is making a comeback to empower locally informed citizens—and here’s how this revival unfolds. In Lagangilang, Abra, the Nutriskwela Community Radio at the University of Abra has been reactivated and restructured, with a clear aim to get the station back on air and online next year.

Radyo Kabinnulig 99.9 DZNA FM operates under the National Nutrition Council in partnership with the University of Abra (UA).

A coordinating meeting brought together representatives from academia, national government agencies, faith groups, and civil society. The discussions focused on restoring station operations, re-launching programs online, and revisiting the radio schedule.

Program Manager Sammy Viste explained that rehabilitation work on the station’s building is still ongoing. Consequently, the team has relocated to the UA Research and Extension Services facility.

“For now, Radyo Kabinnulig will stream live on Facebook since we’re not yet back on the air due to ongoing renovations. All our programs will be broadcast live on social media during this interim period,” Viste stated.

Council members pledged to participate consistently in the live streaming of programs.

UA Research and Extension Services Director Zarina Marianette Orejudos acknowledged the station’s renewed collaboration and support, noting its importance in reconnecting the radio with the community.

“This effort is crucial for reestablishing the station’s link to the people. Your cooperation means a great deal,” Orejudos emphasized.

To promote participatory governance, the Council elected a new slate of officers during the meeting. Their duties include organizing regular meetings and ensuring that radio programs run on a steady schedule.

New Vice President Jude Mark Tejero affirmed UA’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with diverse sectors to continually inform students and communities through Radyo Kabinnulig.

Beyond nutrition-focused content, Radyo Kabinnulig aims to deliver timely and relevant news and information to the broader community.
